Māori And Indigenous Analysis will provide Kaupapa Māori
research, training and production that affirms whānau, hapū,
iwi and Māori organisations.
Ngā Whainga
1. To operate an independent research centre, based upon kaupapa
Māori principles and sound structures and systems, which will
provide information and knowledge for Māori and the wider community.
2. To undertake research activities that enhance the lives of Māori,
other indigenous peoples and the wider community which advance understanding
of key social, economic, spiritual and political issues.
3. To develop and implement resources to support the revitalisation
of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori.
4. To disseminate and distribute research information, products
and publications that will support Māori and the wider community.

Leonie Pihama
(Te Atiawa, Ngā Māhanga ā Tairi, Ngāti Māhanga)
Leonie is Co-Director of the company and acts as the Research
Manager. She brings expertise in Kaupapa Māori research and
production to the projects undertaken by MAIA. Leonie has
a B.A. in Māori and Education, a Master of Arts (Hons) in
Education and a Ph.D (Education).

Huriana McRoberts
(Te Whānau-ā-Apanui, Te Atiawa, Te Arawa)
Huriana is currently a consultant for Kapowai Consultancy and is working in collaboration with MAIA in a research and development capacity. She brings expertise in Kohanga Reo, Early Childhood Education, and Special Education. Huriana has a B.Ed in Teaching (ECE) and is currently working on research projects, web development, and online training.

Atareta Wirihana
(Te Whānau-ā-Apanui, Ngāti Kahungunu, Tūwharetoa)
Atareta is an AUT student working for MAIA as part of her co-operative in the Bachelor of Māori Development majoring in Māori Media. Throughout her three years of study, Atareta has learnt about Kaupapa Māori theory alongside the multimedia technologies of sound, video and studio production in the Communications School. Working for MAIA is a chance to put the theories into practice. |
